March 20: Day 374
Spring is about to sproing, hooray! There is a light in the tunnel, even if it's not from the end.
Today was our first outdoor ride of the year; we went rode seven mostly flat miles along the Perkiomen Trail with the Harkers. There was one stepp hill toward the end that I made it back up in not the granny gear (only because the bike won't shift into the granny gears without intense interference), but I was breathing heavily enough to trigger my asthma.
Wednesday was my first run of the year: a bit over one and a half miles in 20 minutes, hitting a twelve-minute mile pace that took most of last summer to achieve (although I haven't made it back to the three miles). I started with a Peloton fun run, which was very low intensity, thinking I was going super slow.
For someone who has sat on her butt all day for the last 374, I'm moving pretty well.
Since the start of the year, I've been doing fifteen minutes of yoga almost every day a week, most weeks I'll fit in a longer routine. A few weeks ago, I started a four-week "Crush Your Core" course. After the first week, my core was crushed, indeed. Being old and prone to injury, I re-did the first week, and it was easier! Next week I'm re-doing the second week. The four weeks are turning into eight, but there's less pain at the end of the week.
March 6: Birthday week
Last year, March went from my Birthday Week (I strongly believe in celebrating for a full week if you aren't having a big to-do) to Covid anxiety. This year was lots of books, lots of Nutella for breakfast and lunch, home-made doughnuts, chocolate from Jorj, quick core workouts, Castle re-watch, and spending an entire day in my workout gear.
Jet has taken to sleeping on the cat bed on the bottom shelf of the bookcase next to my desk. He also demands playtime as soon as I start reading my e-mail.
The weather is getting warmer and soon I'll be able to go for morning runs again. Very slow, very short morning runs. In weather that is not freezing, perhaps even vaguely warm, and not sopping wet, perhaps even sunny. Evenings with friends in the backyard could be on the horizon! The research is showing that outdoor events don't lead to infection spread (outdoor events that have led to
