Fabulous Five Spot
Jack quickly followed up the stiletto suggestion with this eponymous variation from one of the first bars in Philadelphia to embrace the cocktail resurgence. The Five Spot also had swing dancing that we went to a couple of times; it was there that I had my first negroni from a professional bartender. The citrus of the Cointreau and lime cut the sweetness and heaviness of the bourbon and amaretto.
I've gotten two versions of this cocktail from Jack over the years. This one is a bit of both, with a ratio I like.
This makes two cocktails
- 3 ounces bourbon
- 1 1/2 ounce Amaretto
- 3/4 ounce Cointreau
- 3/4 ounce lime juice
Shake with ice and straint into a cocktail glass, or pour over ice in a rocks glass.
