Stiles

The past few years, my huband has taken Labor Day weekend to work on his photography, and I've taken the opportunity to invite some good friends and ply them with gin and other cocktail. One celebrant is our good friend Marsha, at Hot Water Bath. I have nicknamed her "Marsha Stewart," because to me she is that triple threat of talented cook, diy-er, and professional with her MBA. I think a calendar of us and our kids attempting 24 Christmas crafts would be very educational, not least in the what not to do way. Marsha had a better idea, inspired by the gin party: a calendar of cocktails.

Other friends have gladly volunteered to write up their favorite cocktails. We have some involved recipes, quick one, and a number that are good for using that speciality liqueur you bought for that one thing.

This was created by my friend Gabe, a fabulously misanthropic system administrator (as is the case with all sysadmins who deal with programmers) and amateur mixologist. It's named for the street he was living on when he created the cocktail. The gin party always starts with a pitcher of these.

Can be made by the liter and chilled, or in a shaker.

Batch:

  • 300 ml gin, preferably Hendrick's
  • 150 ml St. Germain
  • 150 ml Lillet
  • 400 ml water

Stir, chill. If you need to chill this fast, use 400 ml of ice water.

Single glass:

  • 1 oz gin, preferably Hendrick's
  • 1/2 oz St. Germain
  • 1/2 oz Lillet

Shake well with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.
